About The Annual Program

Theatre de Jeunesse will annually provide a pre-professional quality educational and performance opportunity free of charge for Mid-Ohio Valley high school and early college aged young adults. The fun, recreational theatre arts activities will provide healthy physical and mental fine arts activities and instruction for the students and their families. This theatre arts opportunity addresses a lack of theatre opportunities in the community for high school aged youth, and the narrowing of arts education in public schools as many school arts programs become casualties of budget constraints. The Theatre de Jeunesse program is also a Theatre Explorer Post of the Boy Scouts of America.

The organization will enter into independent contracts with Mid-Ohio valley professional artists to provide the directorial, musical, technical (set, lighting, sound, props), costume, and makeup/hair instruction and support required for the Theatre de Jeunesse, Inc. production. During the rehearsal period, Theatre de Jeunesse will offer optional in-depth workshops by professional artists focusing on one area of the theatre arts. The workshop artists will raise studentsí awareness of potential career opportunities in the theatre arts and related fields. Working with professional artists will provide students the opportunity to expand their skills and strive to reach their full potential. Their performances will be held to a high standard of artistic excellence. The program offers service learning credit opportunities for Ohio University, Marietta College, Ohio Valley University, and West Virginia University at Parkersburg college students enrolled in relevant courses, who intern with the program.

Students preferring technical theatre will assist the Technical Director in the design and creation of the set, props, lights, and sound for the production. They will also provide the backstage and light rail support for the production as: stage crew, stage manager, assistant stage manager, and light, sound, and followspot operators. Students interested in Costuming will assist the Costumers in the research, design, and construction of costumes.

The annual program will culminate with six performances of the season's production, performed at the Friederich Theater in the Hermann Fine Arts Center at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. (Theatre de Jeunesse is not affiliated with Marietta College.)

Theater seating is wheelchair accessible. Sign language interpretation will be provided for the production to offer people with hearing disabilities the live theatre experience.
